Midterm (Grind) Season

It's that time of year when the weather is starting to slowly get colder, the leaves are changing color and beginning to fall down. For some, this is the chance to get out their winter clothes so they can handle the drop in temperature. Others unfortunately begin their seasonally depression, which might come from an unhappy lifestyle.

Fortunately for me I am "only" battling school, getting ready to set up my last enrollment schedule for the spring semester. It's a bittersweet feeling, I want to be able to say that next semester will be my last but on the other hand I do not want to leave Pittsburg, America. Besides me getting over the midterm hump, I am thinking about my professional future. I am not sure what I want to do with my life, currently I am undertaking two internships. One is with a startup company based out of Kansas City and the other is a non-profit foundation here in town.

I am not sure if I will keep either of those jobs after college, matter of fact I am not sure if they want me to stick around. Meanwhile I am applying to firms located in Kansas City, Dallas, and Chicago.  While I work on establishing my future, I am also attending chamber of commerce coffees, conferences in Kansas City for both public relation and advertising. I'm definitely loving this new lifestyle because its something that I am enjoying as of right now but I not certain whether there is a future for me in this town.

What I do know is that I am extremely tired of living paycheck to paycheck and also asking my parents for money. While this is not permanent, it's a chapter I need to get through so I learn my lesson. Although I am struggling, I am loving my new job at the Colonial Fox Theater where I get to write a great amount more. My editing skills are coming along and I can sense the money coming even sooner.

To wrap everything up, don't let stress keep you from grinding (Working Hard), use stress to motivate you to accomplish your goal.

As usually I leave you with a quote.

“The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can't achieve it.”

You're the real MVP

Today is a very special day for Royals fans, because after three decades they have finally made it all the way to the World Series. Whether you are a baseball fan or not, you have to appreciate the hard work that the Royals players have been giving to make this possible. They have been grinding nonstop to accomplish their dream, and I can relate to them.

I say this because I have learned many lessons in my lifetime (especially during college) about women, family, friends, and money. Earlier this week, I was having a conversation with my girlfriend. We were speaking about our plans for the night, I told her that we should wait till things slowed down the following week because I was overwhelmed with school and my internship. She stopped me and said, "Michael, you have been busy for the last two years." That got me to think that I really haven't stopped grinding since my sophomore year of college.

At times I realize that I miss out on key moments with my friends because I am too involved with different organizations at one time. Since I realize this, I told myself that I would take a break from being too involved. Unfortunately, fall semester came around and can't get away from being too busy. This got me to think, the Royals never took a break from being the best and I should never stop trying to be the best I can be. The lesson I got from that conversation with my girlfriend is that, the world will never slow down and wait for you to catch back up, life doesn't work that way.

So whenever you catch yourself being stress, prioritize what you need to get done that day and use that stress to grind on it.

Once you finish up with that, kick back and watch the Royals sweep the Orioles.

Yell like Hell

They say that value lesson are learned through experience but learning through other people's experiences is the smarter approach. I have fail to follow the wisdom of others and myself. As my followers know, I struggle to balance my finances. This has caused me to expect experience a lot of stress and anxiety. As I stated in my last  blog, I have recently been hired to work at a grainer west of the city of Graird. 6 weeks and three paychecks later, I have quit my job as warehouse help. The sad part is that I really enjoyed my time there, the people were great and the work wasn't bad. What I enjoyed most people getting my paycheck on Tuesday and being able to buy my grocers and pay my bills.

As my follows I know what you are thinking, why did I quit if it was so great. Well let me tell you guys, the owner did not treat me as a valued employee. He actually treated me like a illegally citizen, the people that came to my place of work also had racist remarks to tell me. Don't get me wrong, I have a thick skin and I can take a lot of jokes. But it really came down to the fact that I was not happy there. There were a few reason why I quit outside of work, first was that I had the biggest test of my life the next day, which I could really use the extra time to study for. Second, I had a internship interview with a foundation in Pittsburg doing valuable work that would help them        achieve strategic goals.

So as of right now, I am hoping that I am selected to be apart of this new internship. If I don't get it then I will try to become a public relation freelancer in the Pittsburg area.

What I will leave my followers with is this; no matter how stress you are l, it will pass and if it doesn't then go out and have fun. For example I am currently enjoying the Yell Like Hell completion.

Cognitive Dissonance

In my theories class this week we are studying Cognitive Dissonance (which is a mental stress or discomfort experienced by an individual who holds two or more contradictory, belief, or values at the same time.) and the reason I am stated that is because I am having a lot cognitive dissonance this week.

The reason I am having so much cognitive dissonance is because I am trying to figure out what I want to do with my life once I graduate (hopefully in May) as I am sure all Seniors are. I do not know if I am going to be moving back to my parents house or let alone back to Kansas City. There are a lot of opportunities to take and as of right now I have an awesome internship with a company that could take off all over campuses in the United States. On the over hand I want to enter into a firm and learn the ways of corporate America.

More specifically I am concern with the fact that I might offend my current job by going and taking interviews with other companies. I know I shouldn't because they haven't promised me anything and I haven't promise them anything outside of this internship but I am want to have something secure before I go into my spring and final semester.

Whenever I get a full time offer or not, I am still going to continue to strive to be my best and try to stand apart from the competition.
